Course Reserve Information For Instructors
Placing material on reserve:
Forms for compiling reserve lists are available at the Circulation Desk, or are available online:
- Faculty Reserve List - Microsoft Word
- Faculty Reserve List - PDF (Adobe Acrobat Reader required).
Please fill out the form completely and bring the form and the material to be placed on reserve to the Circulation Desk in the Library. If the material is already in electronic form (for example, a PowerPoint presentation) you may email it as an attachment to the Reserve clerk at deskc@cortland.edu with instructions on how you want it formatted (for example, with a PowerPoint item, how many slides per page, etc). Please also include all the class information requested on the form mentioned above.
Reserves are processed in the order they are received. While every effort will be made to put the reserves on file immediately, during busy times it could take a maximum of two weeks. Print/hard copy/media reserves can have a two-hour library-use only loan period, or a two day (overnight) loan period. The loan period choice is up to the instructor. Loan period is not an issue with e-reserves.
In general, items may only stay on reserve for two consecutive semesters, and must be removed at that time. Items that can remain on reserve for more than two consecutive semesters are: full text articles made available by a link to the library web page; books (either owned by the library or by the instructor); original non-copyrighted material (such as class notes or syllabus written by the instructor); lawfully purchased visual and sound recordings.
Before placing material on reserve, please review the copyright guidelines.
All reserves are removed at the end of each semester and returned to the instructor unless specific arrangements have been made with the Circulation/Reserve Department to keep material on for the following term. E-reserves are tied to a specific class CRN, and so must be adjusted to reflect the current term CRN if they will be used more than one semester.
Fines are assessed to students who keep print/hard/media reserve material longer than the loan period. Fines assessed are $1 per hour for first two hours and 25¢ per hour thereafter, for a maximum fine of $10 per item; $5 plus hourly fine for unauthorized overnight use. There are no fines associated with E-Reserves.
For questions regarding reserves, contact Sherri Ellis at deskc@cortland.edu or (607) 753-2526.
