How can I find only TMC items?
Under Catalog on the pull-down menu at the bottom of the main library page select Teaching Materials Center. This will limit your search to TMC items only.
How can I find curriculum guides?
Under Catalog on the pull-down menu at the bottom of the main library page select Teaching Materials Center. Select Advanced Search from the menu bar at the top of the page. You can limit your search to curriculum guides by collection type or document type. You can also do a search (all fields) for outlines and science (or the subject keyword you're looking for). Use the call number to find the materials in the Curriculum Guide section of the TMC.
Where can I find lesson plans?
Lesson plans may be found in three places in the TMC: in methods materials books, in the Picture/Pamphlet File, and in lesson plan links through the TMC web page. You can also use the Library Catalog to do a subject search for
- Creative activities and seat work
- Activity programs
- Outlines, syllabi, etc.
How can I find children's books at a particular grade level?
Using sources from the TMC reference area such as A to Zoo [TMC Ref PN 1009.A1 L45], Best Books for Children [TMC Ref Z1037.G48], and Best Books for Senior High Readers [TMC Ref PN 1009.A1 G483], you can determine the reading or grade level of children's books.
How can I get information about authors and illustrators of children's books?
Most of the information about authors and illustrators of children's books will not be found in the TMC. Something About the Author [Ref PN 451.S6] and Writers for Young Adults [Ref PS 490 .W75] give information about authors. They are located in the Reference area on the second floor. However, there are also individual books about authors and illustrators and some of these will be located in the TMC. To find books about authors and illustrators, use the library catalog to search for the author or illustrator's name as a keyword search. This will bring up items written about an author or illustrator.
Where can I find book reviews of children's books?
Children's Literature Review [Ref PN 1009.A1 C5139] is a valuable source of review information on children's books. You can find other reviews in Book Review Digest [Abstracts/Indexes Z1035.A1 B4] and Book Review Index[Abstracts/Indexes Z1035.A1 B6]. Ask at the Reference Desk on the second floor for the locations of these items.
How can I find Children's literature in the TMC?

Limit by document type to Children's Literature. For example, you can do a subject search for children's books about the civil war.
How can I find textbooks in the TMC?
Under Catalog on the pull-down menu at the bottom of the main library page select Teaching Materials Center. On the next page, select Advanced Search from the Menu Bar. Limit by document type to TMC Textbook. Using the subject heading Mathematics Study and teaching (Elementary), for example, will locate textbooks for elementary school math teachers.
How can I find videotapes, audiotapes and other hands-on teaching materials (media) in the TMC?
Under Catalog on the pull-down menu at the bottom of the main library page select Teaching Materials Center. On the next page, select Advanced Search from the Menu Bar. Limit by format to videorecording, audiocassette or the format of your choice.
