eLearning

The Cortland eLearning system is part of 21st Century learning process at SUNY Cortland. Faculty utilize the eLearning system to augment their face-to-face courses by offering items like class notes, email communications, access to the online grade book, online class discussion, and Just-in-Time teaching strategies. Access to the eLearning program is essential for almost every SUNY Cortland student.

SUNY Cortland faculty also use the eLearning environment for online course offerings that are synchronous, asynchronous or hybrid (blended).

Task Stream

Learning Achievement Tools (LAT) by TaskStream is used throughout the campus to design and disseminate tasks, requirements and surveys correlated to program goals; facilitate the creation and submission of student artifacts in support of the achievement of articulated standards, skills or competencies; manage and assess required submissions based upon pre-defined assessment criteria; and access reporting to demonstrate individual and programmatic achievement.

For teacher education programs, LAT includes a fully integrated, mission specific module for instructional design. The instructional design module provides the facility to organize, develop and share units and lessons readily referenced to standards, skills or competencies.

Safe Assign

SafeAssign™ is a plagiarism prevention service, offered by Blackboard to its Blackboard Learning System Enterprise, Vista Enterprise and CE Enterprise clients.  This service helps educators prevent plagiarism by detecting unoriginal content in student papers.  In addition to acting as a plagiarism deterrent, it also has features designed to aid in educating students about plagiarism and importance of proper attribution of any borrowed content.”

Streaming Video

Streaming video is sent to your computer from a server little by little without sending you an entire file. Faculty can choose to have videos and films uploaded to their eLearning room.  Copyright policies should be considered before attempting to have a video upload to the server.  All of the Videos are stored in the Quick Time format which you can download a free player from: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download A slow internet connection is not conducive to proper viewing.

Classroom Support

In class "training" of students is minimally offered for TaskStream.  It is Cortland's policy that it is the faculty member's responsibility to make sure their students can navigate in the eLearning environment.  With proper notification (1 week); in-class navigation of the eLearning environment can be held for the students.
