To add the Anova Data Analysis function to Excel 2007, start by opening Excel and clicking on the Office button at the top left of the screen. At the bottom of the drop down menu, click on the’ Excel Options’ button.

The Excel Options window will open. In the column on the left, click on the Add-Ins heading. On the right side of the window, scroll down to Inactive Application Add-Ins and click on ‘Analysis ToolPak’ to select it. Then click the Go Button.

An ‘Add-Ins’ window will open. Click in the checkbox next to ‘Analysis ToolPak’ and click the OK button. Another window may open that says Excel can’t run the add-in until you install the feature. Click Yes.

The Microsoft Office Configuration window will launch. This can take a minute or two to configure. When it is finished, click on the Data tab and the Anova Data Anaylsis function will appear in the Anaylsis group on the right side of the ribbon.

Categories: Tech Questions & Answers

The Office 2007 rollout has begun! With the new Office suite, comes new file formats which result in backwards compatability issues with previous versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.  Fortunately, there is a free tool from Microsoft that will allow previous versions of these programs to open, edit, save and create files using these new formats.

iTunesU Open Enrollment - Policies and Procedures

Categories: Announcements iTunesU

Starting this Fall, we are inviting faculty to participate in the iTunesU program.  Below are the policies and procedures for the program.  If you have any questions, please contact Tera Doty-Blance ( dotyblancet@cortland.edu )

Registration – An online form will be available at the Cortland iTunesU website http://www.cortland.edu/itunesu , where instructors can request course space in iTunesU.  Instructors will need to provide their course name, course number, and CRN from Banner.  After this information has been submitted to the iTunesU administration, training must be scheduled before the course space will be created. Until the online form is made available, iTunesU course requests should be made directly to the Technology Trainer (Tera Doty-Blance – dotyblancet@cortland.edu , 753-4056)

Training – Instructors will be required to participate in two workshops, one on course management and one on podcast production, before the creation of their course space in iTunesU.  The first workshop, on managing the course space will provide information on logging into the system, how and what sections of the course interface to edit, managing the student drop box, student versus instructor interfaces, proper file naming schemes and file management.  The second workshop will cover podcast production on either the mac or pc platform, using Garageband, iMovie and/or Camtasia Studio.  This production workshop will provide instruction in use of the software as well as additional hardware and file storage considerations.  Student podcast production considerations and support will also be discussed.

Support –   Instructors can request in class presentations on Garageband, iMovie or Camtasia Studio by the Technology Trainer (Tera Doty-Blance) or the Multimedia Production specialist (Dawn VanHall).  Such requests and scheduling will be made through the Coordinator of Instruction Librarian (Daniel Harms – 753-4042, harmd@cortland.edu ) Instructors are requested to provide information on student podcast assignments, such as scope of project, required elements, due date, etc, to the Coordinator of Instruction.  This is for the purpose of coordinating support and equipment availability.

Equipment –  Multimedia production and recording equipment is available at the circulation desk in the Memorial Library.  External Hard drives, Digital Video Cameras, Digital Still Cameras, TuneTalk Microphones and iPods are available for loan and use outside the library. USB Microphones are available for in house use only.  The two multimedia rooms in the library are available for 3 hour periods and each contain a production level Mac and PC and software.

Guide to Using USB Drives at SUNY Cortland

Categories: Tech Questions & Answers Uncategorized

On the Information Resources Website, there is link to a PDF guide to Using USB Drives at SUNY Cortland

You should review this guide BEFORE you purchase one. Please note, we are starting to see users having problems using their usb drives on the campus computers because certain brands of usb drives require drivers or backup programs to be installed on Windows computers. (Macs will ignore the software and do not experience this problem). That means they will not work on the authenticated machines on campus.  Keep this in mind before you make your purchase.

Also, you should be aware that users have 200 MB of storage space on the network, which they can access from any computer on campus. Just log in using your network id, then open ‘my computer’. The ‘Username on Shares: U:’ drive is listed here
