Memorial Library is equipped with wireless access points. Wireless coverage is available throughout the building. However, there may be some areas within the building where coverage is better than others.
Wireless access is available to all visitors, no special encryption settings, usernames, nor passwords are required.
Individuals can connect wirelessly anywhere within the library to the Internet to access Library collections, databases, email, and other information resources. In order to utilize the wireless coverage you will need a laptop and a compatible 802.11b PCMCIA wireless networking adapter. The prices for these adapters vary from under $100 to over $200.
Supported laptop configurations include Microsoft Windows XP and Mac OS X. It is highly recommended if you want to use wireless networking on campus that your operating system be Windows XP or Macintosh OS X (10.x). Wireless networking will work with other operating systems, but it is much more difficult to configure and maintain. With Windows XP and Macintosh OS X, it is very easy to switch between the wired and wireless networking, but it is much more difficult under older operating systems.
Transmissions over the wireless network are not encrypted. Therefore, users are advised not to transmit personal information such as social security number or credit card information while using the wireless network.
Printers are not part of the Wireless Internet Access. If you need to print, please save your work to a disk, then use a workstation and send print jobs to a printer.
